“Nothing” the creator

  1. And your rebuttal of Dr. Hawking’s observations are . . . what?

It’s rather bizarre that the creator of this video switches back and forth from Stephen Hawking, one of the greatest minds of our time, to William Lane Craig, to Eric Hoving, one of the greatest deniers of reality of our time — without indicating where one person’s presentation ends and another begins.

Lisle’s claim that God does what William Lane Craig claims is impossible is fascinating. One must wonder if the science deniers here really carry through on their disbelief of creation, or if it isn’t just mental gymnastics.

There is much good material on Big Bang throughout the web, and even more, even better stuff in most libraries. Have you ever studied physics and cosmology? I recommend it.

  2. I am not rebutting Dr. Hawkins, I am just fascinated that someone classified as “one of the greatest minds of our time” would believe in nothing creating everything.

So often evoltuionists use the argument that scientists do not claim that nothing created everything, this video shows that that argument is not valid.

  3. So, you’re not Christian? I’m really confused by your site.

You’re aware, I hope, that Christian theology generally holds that God created ex nihilo — yes?

Hawking says nothing new in cosmology. You’d do well to read his stuff and see if you can figure out what he’s really saying.

Hawking is not saying “nothing created everything.” He’s talking about matter prior to the Big Bang — there was no matter.

Does that mean “nothing?” If you deny Einstein, too, I suppose you could propose that hypothesis. But then you’d be denying the possibility of nuclear power.

E=MC(C). You’ve never heard of it?

  4. I am a Christian, but I am not sure what they has to do with Dr. Hawkins comments.

And yes I understand the theology of God the creator.

Dr Hawkins said “The universe was spontaneously created out of nothing.” Sounds like there was nothing, and then there was everything. Last time I checked nothing means nothing, unless your an evolution apologist of course.

If he meant to say that there was something he would have said that. You can not put words into someones mouth to help cover your tracks.

You also can not put words in my mouth to create a strawman. I never denied Einstein or nuclear power. If you have a problem with Dr Hawkins thoughts on how the universe was created take it up with him, you did qualify him as one of the greatest minds of our time.

  5. Today’s reading from the Book of Darwin:

The Descent of Man: The Descent of Man from some Lower Form

    We read:

“Man differs conspicuously from all the other primates in being almost naked. But a few short straggling hairs are found over the greater part of the body in the man, and fine down on that of a woman. The different races differ much in hairiness; and in the individuals of the same race the hairs are highly variable, not only in abundance, but likewise in position: thus in some Europeans the shoulders are quite naked, whilst in others they bear thick tufts of hair. There can be little doubt that the hairs thus scattered over the body are the rudiments of the uniform hairy coat of the lower animals. This view is rendered all the more probable, as it is known that fine, short, and pale-coloured hairs on the limbs and other parts of the body, occasionally become developed into ‘thickset, long, and rather coarse dark hairs,’ when abnormally nourished near old-standing inflamed surfaces.”

    Amen. Darwin be with you.

  6. http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/astronomy/bigbang.html#misconceptions

    Take a look at these.

Hawkins’s focus was on black holes so I’m not sure what kind of authority he is on the Big Bang Theory.

But be careful where you get your information. The History Channel can be unreliable sometimes as they will run things that will give them good ratings rather than good information. Discovery Science? please go to the source of scientific info and not the media outlets.

  7. As an atheist, I can tell you that atheism is not the belief in the big bang theory, it is simply the lack of belief in a god. That’s it. Now, while on that subject, I can tell you that most – not all – atheists trust the scientific method as it is open to change and debate, unlike religion. If a scientist disproves evolution and the big bang theory and presents his findings to other scientists, something profound will happen. They will discuss the theory, apply the findings and see what results they get. If they disprove the theory themselves, then it will be dismissed and then, we start work all over again.

But nowhere in science does anyone say that “nothing” is the creator of everything. We simply do not know and rather than fill in the blanks with nonsense.

  8. Hi Jessica, thank you for the comment. I am not sure why your commenting on Atheism on this post as it is about the science of the universe forming. And there are scientists that claim that everything came from nothing, watch the video. Steven Hawkins is a well respected scientists and he claims the there was nothing and then everything came into existence. You may want to right him and tell him he is wrong.

  9. One must be cautious in when listening the some of the scientific rhetoric in these highly theoretical areas. Often scientists use metaphors when discussing the unknown. Our knowledge of matter and the universe tells us that matter is another form of energy and that matter and anti-matter exists. It has been postulated that the net sum of matter, antimatter, and energy actually adds up to zero (or near zero). At our level of understanding, we might call the net sum ‘nothing’, but it is really a metaphor for whatever results when we combine everything in the universe.

  10. Creation stories of “god” creating the universe (ver – L man) as do-all-see-all-is-all Alpha Males in the Sky abound since peasants, nomads and wanderes have had to listen to men who wanted power over these illiterate masses. Long historical tradition, long-standing tradition and thousands of years of patriarchy, slavery and feudal LORDS have imprinted on the mind that “God” is the guy who did it! How do you suppose the young fields of science, reason, evidence from reality and nature conquer the irrationality fabrications and lies of thosands of years in 2-3 hundred years?

  11. they dont conquer them by any means..i would never argue with evidence..find me some that actually proves the bible to be false and we’ll talk..so far all the evidence that has been presented could fit either the bible (which was written thousands of years ago and has NEVER changed) AND evolution which changes its theory everytime its proved to be false

    1 Corinthians 1:18
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written:
“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the inteligence of
    the inteligent i will frustrate.”

  12. mcoville – i know you no longer maintain this website but I’m hoping to get in touch with you…4 years later! I’ve left my email address. I’m a journalist and a believer – I’ve found what you’ve written on this site to be fascinating. Would like to ask you some questions if you’re up for it – thank you!
