Michael Shermer interviews AiG Scientist

This is a very interesting video of sceptic Michael Shermer interviewing a research scientist from Answers in Genesis’ Creation Museum.

She gives some solid answers to his repetative questions but my favorite part is when Shermer admits that all scientists are biased toward the data. This is worth the 25 min to watch.

Responses

  1. How is being biased towards the data a bad thing?

You should be biased towards the data. Otherwise, you’d believe any silly thing.

  2. Bring biased is a good thing. I agree with you morsec0de, but the problem I run into is a lot of evolutionists refuse to admit that evolution scientists have a bias towards the data. I wish more would be as truthful as you and Mr. Shermer.

  3. Great interview, I am impressed with sceptic Michael Shermer even though I don’t agree with his beliefs. Purdom responses were good. She is a very smart woman. Glad she is a creationist…I also noticed they had some admirers, every so often someone was taking a picture of them…lol

Yes I agree, many evolutionists are in denial about their bias of the evidence.

  4. I find it hilarious that you seem to have this negative connotation with having a bias towards the evidence. At least it sounds negative when I read you writing it.

  5. Well, a biased view can be detrimental to discovering truth in data if you allow it to cloud your judgment. I do not think this prevents someone from understanding the data, it may just change their understanding of the findings.

The point of the post was that a lot of evolutionists argue that they do not have a biased view of the data. I am well aware that I am biased based on that fact that I know God exists, if you believe God does not exist then you will be biased in interpreting data as creation is not an option.

It was nice to hear Michael Shermer say that he understands the existence of biased views amongst scientists. I do not mean that as a dig towards him, or you morsec0de as you seam to be honest about your biased view, but I hope this is a chance for others to think about their bias views and at least be honest about it.

  6. “The point of the post was that a lot of evolutionists argue that they do not have a biased view of the data. ”

I don’t think you understand. We don’t have a biased view OF the data. Our bias is TOWARDS the data.

The data and the evidence are what we are biased towards.

  7. I understand that evolutionists are biased TOWARDS evolution, and that effects their opinion OF the data.

  8. We were getting along so well, agreeing like that.

But sorry, you’re wrong mcoville. The evidence points to evolution. It’s the creationists who start with their biases and try to make the evidence match it.

  9. “The evidence points to evolution. It’s the creationists who start with their biases and try to make the evidence match it.” in your biased opinion it does.

I thought we where still getting along, we don’t have to agree in order to get along do we?
